Golden Paintworks - Glass Bead Gel

Decorative, water based, acrylic gel mediums that dry clear, and contain a high concentration of small, clear, glass beads. The clarity allows any color underneath to show through, while the glass beads reflect light in a sparkling cascade. For best results, apply a coat of Metallic Paint before applying the Glass Bead Gels.

Product Specification

Golden Paintworks® Glass Bead Gel is a clear acrylic product containing real glass beads that can be used to add accents of subtle, light reflecting sparkle. Use for contemporary accents, highlights and embellishments.

SURFACE PREPARATION

Surface must be clean, dry and free of dirt, oil, wax and grease. Remove any loose, flaking or chalking paint from the surface. Do not apply to slick or glossy surfaces.

NOTE: Glass Bead Gel dries slowly and will pull tannins and other migrating materials from the substrate into the clear causing yellowing. This is especially important over luan, hardboard, cedar, redwood, etc. We recommend priming the substrate with a high-quality, Stain-Blocking Primer (Zinsser Cover-Stain) and
allow to fully dry. Apply an even coat of Glass Bead Undercoat over the entire primed surface with a roller or trowel (see Glass Bead Undercoat TDS). Allow Undercoat to dry. Paint surface with any paint color or Metallic Paint color and allow to fully dry.

APPLICATION

For maximum clarity and strongest reflective properties, apply as a single layer of beads by spreading and floating the beads with a stainless steel or plastic trowel. Using the Glass Bead Undercoat will make spreading the Glass Beads much easier. Note: Heavy applications may remain cloudy and not completely clear.
• Stir contents before use.
• Trowel or brush apply in a single coat.
• Apply at temperatures between 50° F & 90° F.
• May be thinned with water, up to 10% by volume
• Test your technique on a practice board before applying to walls.
• For interior use.
• Roller and spray applications are not recommended.

Remove masking tape before the Glass Bead Gel has dried.

Note: It is very difficult to remove the Glass Bead Gel once it has been applied. Plan ahead and either apply the finish to strippable wallpaper liner or be advised that it may be necessary to skim over the finish with joint compound and resurface or strip the product from the surface to remove.
