Modern Masters - Theme Paint

Practical coverage is 270 to 500 square feet per 1 gallon at 1.5–2 mils dry film thickness per coat. A minimum of 2 coats are required for hide and full color development.

Dry and recoat times are based on 77ºF and 50% relative humidity. Dry-to-touch is approximately 30 minutes. Recoat time is approximately 2 hours. Lower temperature and/or higher humidity will lengthen the dry and cure times.

Clean brushes, rollers, tool, and equipment with soap and warm water immediately after use. Do not reuse containers and properly dispose of empty containers.

All surfaces to be painted must be entirely free of dust, dirt, oil, grease, and other contaminants. Completely remove all loose, flaking, or chalking paint from the surfaces. Use a NIOSH approved respirator when sanding and when working with old, loose paint particles. Provide adequate ventilation. Properly prime the clean, dry surface with a primer from our recommended list and allow the surface to dry completely— preferably overnight.

Do not apply in temperatures below 50°F/10°C or above 85°F/29°C. Lower temperatures and/or higher humidity will lengthen the dry and cure times. Higher temperatures and/or lower humidity will speed up the dry and cure times. Modern Masters Theme Paint can be brushed, rolled, or sprayed onto any paintable, properly primed, interior or exterior surface. Stir the paint well before using.

Brushing: Use a high-quality brush recommended for water-based paints.

Rolling: When rolling, work in approximately 4-foot-wide sections, keeping a wet edge.

Spraying: To spray Theme Paint, use an Airless spray unit or an Air-Assisted Airless spray unit. Use equipment manufacturer’s recommended tip sizes for latex paint. Thin as needed—but carefully—as over- thinning may result in loss of hide and a reduction of the desired appearance. We recommend thinning 10% with water. When spraying, use a properly fitted NIOSH approved respirator per the manufacturer’s instructions.

Theme Paint can be used for making diluted color washes. Dilutions of approximately 5 parts water to 1 part paint are used for layering and creating unique appearances such as stonework, with a maximum dilution of 10 parts water to 1 part paint.

All Theme Paint Pre-Mixed Colors can be intermixed to create custom colors. Do not use universal colorants to tint or shade product unless color fading is acceptable. Theme Paint Colorants can be used to tint or shade the pre-mixed colors without affecting lightfastness.

In certain applications, Theme Paint may require the use of Modern Masters Theme Paint Exterior Dead Flat Varnish. As a protective topcoat, it improves weather ability and provides additional UV protection for Theme Paint decorated surfaces. The painted surface must be fully cured (approximately 24 hours) prior to application. For best results and maximum protection, a minimum of two (2) coats of varnish is recommended.
